Mailing Info

Hi All! I found out some more info on mailing packages to Kyler and thought I would share.

The "Green Sticker" can only be used on international packages up to 4 pounds. After that you have to use the "White Sticker" and he will have to pay an additional fee for it once it gets there. He is about 20 hours away, round trip, from where the mail is delivered to and is not the one picking up his mail. Someone else is getting the mail and it's delivered to them every Tuesday. Because we are unsure how it all works, with the fees etc., it would probably be a good idea to keep packages under 4 pounds. You can use the flat rate envelopes and the smallest flat rate box. The flat rate fee, up to 4 pounds, is $13.95.
Let me know if this is clear as mud and I will try and explain better:)

Mailing FYI

I sent Kyler a package today and used the smaller flat rate Priority Mail envelope. You can mail up to 4 lbs. in it internationally and it cost me $13.95. The guy at the post office said it should take about 2 weeks to get there. I also found out what the "green sticker" is. The form is a PS Form 2976. I've attached pictures for your viewing pleasure...The very last page is where the green sticker is that they put on the package.

Just to let you all know, Kyler said all of the pictures that I attached earlier were taken in Ecuador. They were from last week and were all in his sector.
Kyler said he is doing really good and he's getting more and more used to being a missionary every day. He said that the people there are awesome and they love them! They are teaching a family and get to see them every day and they are going to be baptized on the 9th of April. He said he is excited because he has seen a miracle in their family. He said they have really come to love the church and they are just awesome. He said that they usually only teach members because the members need their help and knowledge. He said they are making miracles with the members and non members combined and that it's really a great feeling to help people. He said they are teaching a 17 year old kid for example, he has a 1 year old daughter and is hopefully going to be baptized soon. He said he is really coming to like being there, the hours are long, but the work is good and they do a lot of good things. He said the church there is run differently so it's going to take some getting used to it. He said that a lot of what they do is actually changing people and it feels good to help them. He said it's what he wants to do for his career, so he thinks that he will enjoy being a doctor as much as he is liking to see people come off of drug addictions and much more.
He said he was excited to go shopping today for food and for some things that be needed. He said he eats tons of bread and he went to buy some peanut butter today and a small jar costs $7 so he decided that he is just going to eat his bread straight up LOL. (That is so Kyler talking LOL) He said they eat bread in the morning and at night when no one feeds them. Sometimes the members give them food, but its usually little and not that filling. He said his dinner last night was rice with a soft boiled egg, they called it "arroz con juevos" and it was interesting.
He wanted me to make sure to let everyone know about paying everything up front if anyone is going to send him anything and that packages need to have the green sticker.
He loves you all and misses you very much!

Update Info Continued

Shauna got an email from Kyler today with some more information that we thought everyone would be interested in hearing (or reading) about...
Kyler's new companion is Elder Johnson and he is from Iowa. He said the language is really hard and he is struggling to teach, but he's learning more and more every day and his companion helps him a ton. He said he is really a blessing because some of the other trainers don't even speak English. He said they are at their first sector in Loja and its so amazing. He said they are up in the mountains where it's cold and all the people love missionaries. He said he pretty much jumped right into the work; that night they planned and then we went out teaching the next morning. He said right now they are working to strengthen the member families. He said he is doing alright with Spanish and he helps his companion as much as possible. He said things are going well and they have a baptism in 2 weeks and he's really excited for that. He said they have a lot of great investigators and he has already seen miracles with people. He said he has pictures that he will try and send next week!

Matt found some interesting information on the city of Loja, Ecuador...
Loja (full form: Ciudad de la Inmaculada Concepción de Loja) is the capital of Ecuador's Loja Province. It is located in the Cuxibamba valley in the south of the country, sharing borders with the provinces of Zamora-Chinchipe and El Oro, and with Peru in the south. Loja holds a rich tradition in the arts, and for this reason is known as the Music Capital of Ecuador. The city is home to two major universities.
The city has a population of about 180,000, and is situated 2100 m (6890 ft) above sea level. It has a mild Andean climate, ranging between 16 and 30°C. The Pan-American Highway runs past Loja.
