Finally an update from Kyler!

We didn't hear from Kyler last week and have been anxiously waiting to hear from him to see if he made it to Ecuador! I was so excited to get an email from him today! This is what he had to say...

He said that last week he left Peru on Tuesday and went to Ecuador. He had orientation with his mission president and then the next morning he got on a bus and rode for 9 hours to a small city called Loja and that is where he's going to be serving for the next 3 months or more. He said his trainer picked him up from the terminal and he is way legit! He is from Iowa and he goes home in 12 weeks, so he says he's likely to be his last companion. He said he is way cool and they get along great! He said he has tought him so much about the mission that he can't even explain. He said it is so nice there and that the weather is great and the people are friendly with the missionaries and that he is just loving it here so far. He says the food is interesting, but he's surviving. He also said that the people always give them a ton of food, mainly rice and what is called Platanos (which I Googled to find out what they are and found out that they are a fruit that is related to the banana. The common way to eat them is to cook them by steaming, boiling or frying).

I have sent an email back begging for pictures so hopefully he can send some soon! It sounds like he is doing great! :) He also mentioned that if you send him any packages to please send it with a green sticker with all expenses payed because then it will go straight to him. He said to not use the white sticker because then he has to pay money to pick it up. I am not sure what the green sticker is that he's referring to, but if I find out I will let you all know. I would assume someone at the post office could help with that:) I've asked him to let me know what his address is as well just so I know we all have the correct one. I will update you when I find out!

One Week To Go!

Kyler said to let everyone know how very excited he is to get out of the MTC! He said even though today is only his 2 month mark, he is really excited about that. He also said he will send more pictures for me to post next week too! He said he has been playing soccar and working out every day and that him and his companion teach well together.
He was very happy to hear that his cousin, Nate, is out of the hospital and doing good!

Update from Kyler!

I got an email from Kyler today! He said that last week, on their P day, they went on a tour of the city and it was pretty dirty. He said his Spanish is coming along and that he's learning more and more every day. He said he works hard every day, but no one said it would ever be easy so he knows that it isn't, but he knows it will pay off. He got a new companion from Chile last week too, sounds like their personalities clash a little LOL:)
He said he's sick of eating rice! He also said he's been playing ALOT of soccer, which he never thought he would play, but that's what they do there so he's joining in the fun. He said he went to the temple today and went through the vail in Spanish and that was interesting.
Overall it sounds like he's doing well! He said he's very excited to get out of the MTC and move on to Ecuador, only a couple more weeks to go!

Correct Address!

I got an email from Kyler last week saying that they found out they had put the wrong address, for the Peru MTC, in his mission packet. He said that no one has been getting any mail. I have sent 2 letters to this address (minus the 4th line) that he said he got. The correct address is:
Peru MTC
Centro De Capacitacion Misional
Melgarejo 159
URB. Campo Verde
La Molina, Lima 12
Peru

Pictures from Kyler :)

I got an email with some pictures attached from Kyler today! He said he is doing really good there and that the time seems to be flying by.
The attached pictures are of his first and second companions. He didn't tell me their names, but based on his previous letters and emails and from what I think their name tags say, the first one is Elder Altom who was his companion in Provo.
The second picture is his companion now in Ecuador and his name is Elder Mendoza.
Hopefully next week he will be able to send a few more pictures for me to post.

Food Update!!

Ha! What a little hagging can accomplish ;)
Kyler says the food there is interesting, they usually eat rice and some type of meat twice a day. They eat cereal and dry pancakes usually for breakfast. He said it's tough to get used to and he doesn't think that I would like the MTC food  LOL, wonder why :). They don't have many options if any at all and they have to eat what they take. He said it's difficult to adjust to, but he's doing it pretty well. He said there is lots of rice and the juice is awesome! He also said they often times don't really know what they are eating, but they don't ask what it is just incase LOL!

Update from Kyler!

I got an email from Kyler today! I have been so excited to hear from him and his new experiences in Peru!
He said his life there is better than Provo by far, but it really sucks not getting mail everyday. He wanted me to remind everyone to please not send any packages until he's out of the MTC. He said he found out yesterday that if his Spanish is good enough after 3 weeks they will let him go to Ecuador early, otherwise he'll stay the full 6 weeks. He said if he has to stay the full 6 weeks he will get a new companion after 3 weeks because all of the Latinos are only there for 3 weeks.  He said the weather there is awesome, it's always hot and humid and he loves getting to wear short sleeved shirts LOL.
He said his new companion is awesome and that he's from Bolivia and doesn't speak any English! He said it's awesome though because he's been able to learn more in the week he's been there than he did in 2 years of Spanish in high school. He said he can comprehend anyone who speaks slowly, but he can't exactly speak it yet. He knows that will come with time and practice though.
He said he had to cut his hair and it was hard to get used to. He said that everyone looks the same and he thinks he looks funny, but it's not too bad LOL. He said they got to go our shopping today and it was amazing! He said he needed shampoo and it was really cheap!
I've noticed over the few years I've been a step mom to all boys is that they give so much less detail than us girls do LOL! Still no address, or how the food is!:) Hopefully I'll get it out of him eventually and I'm still keeping my fingers crossed for some pictures!:)
